Black-tipped nails are literally taking over Instagram. Don’t believe us? Check your timeline. Since it’s fall, fashion girls and nail techs are dabbling into the dark arts. And by dark art, we mean dark nail art. And what’s better for dark nail art than black? Literally, nothing. Black is the new black, again. Here’s some inspiration and tips so you can join the latest bandwagon—black-tipped nails.

Black Nails with Accent Nail

These black-tipped nails from @justlo_ are both edgy and classy. To get this design right, you’ll need a liner brush and black and clear nail polishes.

On all of your nails, apply the base coat. Next, you’re going to do the black tips. Use a liner brush and black polish to paint your tips. Clean up any mistakes with an acetone-soaked nail art clean-up brush.

After that, you’re going to do the flames for your ring finger. Using the liner brush and black polish, create a C shape on the center of the nail. Once it dries, use the liner brush and black polish to draw a line connecting from the C to the tip of your nail. That’s one flame. Use the liner brush and black polish to freestyle the other flames. You can draw your flames as thick or as long as you want by adding more paint on with the liner brush.

Short Black Tip Nails

If you’re not into fake nails, you’ll love @abbiekaym‘s short black tip nails. You can skip the acrylics with these black-tipped nails. To start, cut and file your own nails. Then, grab some clear, black, and white polishes and a liner brush. Before you begin designing, apply base coat.

After that, apply black nail polish to some of the nails. @abbiekaym used her thumb and ring fingers as accent nails on one hand and her index and pinky on the other. For black polish, you can try Essie’s Licorice or OPI’s Black Onyx.

For your other nails, use the liner brush and black polish to make abstract shapes on each tip. Once your nails dry, use the liner brush and white polish to make white lines and curves.

After everything dries, use clear polish to finish off the look.

Almond Black Tip Nails

Tell me you’re classy without telling me you’re classy. That’s what @taycapelli‘s almond black tip nails say. To copy her black-tipped nails, you’ll need a liner brush, clear and black polishes, and optionally nude nail polish. If you’re not a pro, grab acetone and a clean-up brush, too. You’re going to need them to clean up your French tips.

To start, apply base coat. Then, if you opted for nude nail polish, apply it as well. Allow it to dry. Next using a thin nail brush, you should paint the tips black. To do this, start from the bottom of one side of the nail and make a curved outline. Fill in the outline with black polish. If your French tips are not looking how you want, grab your clean-up brush and acetone. Dip the clean-up brush into the acetone. Carefully fix your tips with the clean-up brush.

Let the paint dry, and then apply some clear gloss over them. This will help achieve this look perfectly.

If @sachatamayo‘s black-tipped nails look eerily similar to the last ones, that’s because they are. The only difference is the French tip design. What you need is the same—clear and black polishes, a liner brush, and optionally nude nail polish.

Firstly, apply the base coat to your nails and then preferably paint them with a nude polish. Once it dries, you should start with the tips. First, using your liner brush and black polish, outline your French tips. Unlike the last time, you’re not drawing the curve from the bottom of the nail. Start somewhere in the middle. After that, fill in the area with black polish. Fix any mistakes with acetone and a clean-up brush.

When done, apply the top coat, and your look will be complete.

Black Flame Tip Nails

These black-tipped nails seem complicated, but they’re doable. First, paint your nails with the nude color of your preference. Then using a nail striper dipped in black polish, make a C shape on the center of one of your nails.

Make sure that you extend the length of the C a bit. After, that connect the shape to the top of the nail by making a line from the center of the C’s bottom. With this, the middle work of this art will be completed.

Later use the same technique for the sides of the nails. This time you don’t have to make a very curved C. Once you do that, connect the shapes by painting a thin black line on the tip of your nail.

Black and White French Tips

These black-tipped nails SPEAK to us! For these black-tipped nails, you’ll need white, clear, and black polishes and a liner brush. First, use white polish to paint your tips. If your tips aren’t perfect, then use acetone and a clean-up brush to correct them. Let the polish dry, and then pour some black nail polish onto a non-stick surface. For the zeba print, dip the liner brush into it and paint thin strokes over your white tips. You can make thick or thin lines depending on your preference.

Once done with one nail, use the same technique for the others. When everything dries, apply the top coat.

These black-tipped nails cover the whole gamut of nail trends—cow, zebra, and checkered prints. For these black-tipped nails, you’ll need black, white and nude polishes and a liner brush.

Let’s start with the French tips. Grab white polish, a liner brush, and a non-stick surface. Dot some of the white polish onto the non-stick surface. Dip your liner brush into the polish and outline your French tips. Then, fill in your French tip outline with white polish.

Next, let’s move on to the checkered print. Dot the black polish on a non-stick surface and dip your liner brush into it. On your pinky finger, use the liner brush and black polish to draw horizontal and vertical-crossing lines to form the squares. Fill in the squares with black polish.

Then, you’re going to do almost the same thing on your ring finger. Use the liner brush and black polish to draw a line down the center of the tip. Fill in one side of the line with black polish. Dip your liner brush into the black polish as needed.

Next is the zebra print. You’re going to do zebra print on your middle finger and thumb. Use the liner brush and black polish to draw thin strokes on your tips. You can try to follow the picture or freestyle it. It’s up to you. If you’re running low on black polish, pour more onto the non-stick surface.

Last is the cow print. You can use the liner brush or dotting tool to create the cow print. Simply dip whichever tool you use into the black polish on your non-stick surface. Then paint cow spots onto your tips.

For these black-tipped nails, you’ll be making two designs. One is a French tip, which you should be well-versed in by now, and the other one is a checkered print. Let’s start with the French tips, shall we? First, use a liner brush and black polish to outline your French tips. Then fill in the outline with black polish. If you make mistakes, use acetone and a clean-up brush.

Next is the checkered print. On your index and ring fingers, use black polish and a dotting tool to make alternating squares. You can also use a liner brush instead of the dotting tool.

Last, apply top coat.

Nude Nails with Black Tips

These black-tipped nails are relatively simple and easy to get right. You’ll need a nude color or a very light shade of pink. Besides that, you’ll also need black nail polish, top coat polish, and a liner brush.

First, apply nude or pink nail polish to your thumb, index, middle, and pinky fingers. Then use a liner brush and black polish for the French tips. Clean up any mistakes with a clean-up brush and acetone. For your ring finger, paint it with black polish.

Last, apply top coat polish. And you’re done.

These black-tipped nails have a slanted French tip. To get the look, apply nude polish. After the paint dries, start working on the tips.

Begin from one side of the nail and apply thin black strokes on the side. Next, paint the tips thick using the same brush and polish. However, keep in mind not to paint the edges of the other side of the nail. Let the nails dry, and you’ll be done.
